The Silk Road Ch@llenge is a blogging challenge organised by Social Travel Market fringe conference in conjunction with the UNWTO Silk Road Programme.

Bloggers will be required to visit the stands of one or more countries that are part of the Silk Road and are taking part in the Ch@llenge (see map of stands at WTM here) to learn about what the country has to offer visitors and then post what they have learned on their blogs. The countries involved are Georgia (EM260), Armenia (EM265), Azerbaijan (EM490), Albania (EM1370) and Kazakhstan (EM490).

Blog posts will be judged by a panel of experts and awarded marks for originality, the use of multimedia and how well they promote the Silk Road. The winning blogger will win an iPad 2.

Anyone interested in taking part in the Silk Road Ch@llenge should sign up here with their name and blog address. Entry to ExCel is free to bloggers but you will need to register to attend Social Travel Market at World Travel Market .

The UNWTO Silk Road Programme is a collaborative initiative designed to enhance sustainable tourism development along the historic Silk Road route. It aims to maximize the benefits of tourism development for local Silk Road communities, while stimulating investment and promoting the conservation of the route's natural and cultural heritage.

Social Travel Market



Social Travel Market is aimed at digital marketing executives and social media managers from tourist boards, tour operators, airlines, hotels and other companies in the travel sector such as public relations companies and marketing agencies as well as travel bloggers and writers.

Social Travel Market is organised and curated by Steve Keenan, online travel editor for the Sunday Times, and travel writer and author Mark Frary, who has worked both on and offline for many leading industry publications, including The Times, and is the founder and editor of governmental travel website Public Sector Travel. Both have substantial experience in the use of all aspects of social media in travel.
